The international conference “China-Brazil Cooperation and Global Governance”, co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Centro Brasileiro de Relações Internacionais (CEBRI), and Colégio Brasileiro de Estudos Avançados, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (CBAE-UFRJ), will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on October 14, 2024.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, and the G20 Summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro in November this year. Nowadays, China and Brazil are deepening their strategic mutual trust and advancing their practical cooperation, and China-Brazil's relationship is increasingly showing its impact on promoting and impacting global development. Against this background, it is timely to review the development of the China-Brazil relationship and explore the cooperation and contribution of the two countries in global governance. In this conference, we are delighted to invite renowned think tanks, scholars, experts, and entrepreneurs from both countries to discuss the following topics: (1) multilateralism and global governance; (2) sustainable and innovation-driven development; (3) China-Brazil cooperation towards the future.

With the development of technology and productivity, the links between countries are becoming increasingly extensive and close, and the world is increasingly becoming a global village with a shared future. At the same time, the world today faces many challenges, such as unilateralism, protectionism, and non-traditional security, and instability and uncertainty are increasing, which bring obstacles to the development of countries and the whole world. Strengthening consultation and dialogue in international society, practicing equal and orderly multilateralism, and building a global governance system based on rules, fairness, and justice are the ways for countries to work together to tackle the challenges. This section will focus on the following topics:
1. Emerging technologies such as the Internet, information technology, and artificial intelligence are creating opportunities for economic and social development and posing problems that must be addressed.
2. As economic ties among countries increasingly close, how can macroeconomic policy coordination be strengthened to ensure healthy and stable growth?
3. How to ensure that multilateral platforms play an influential role in international finance, trade, and investment while improving global economic governance..
4. How can the Global South play a more constructive role in global governance to achieve equal and inclusive international development?

The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development reflects the demands of all countries for sustainable development. Today, many global issues, such as climate change, still pose severe challenges to human society. Both China and Brazil are major emerging economies striving to transform and optimize their economic growth patterns; they also face several common problems in promoting sustainable economic and social development and improving people’s well-being. This section will focus on the following topics:
1. How can we accelerate the realization of green and sustainable economic development through technological and institutional innovation, with the state, enterprises, and market playing an influential role?
2. How can we enhance the application of cutting-edge new technologies in developing and utilizing new energy?
3. How to better achieve coordinated regional development through optimizing the national land spatial development plan.
4. How to promote poverty reduction and assist vulnerable groups to improve people’s well-being continuously.
